Vintage Anthropomorphic Blue Bird Salt & Pepper Shakers
This is a super cute pair of vintage, anthropomorphic Lefton Bluebird salt and pepper shakers!
They are man and woman blue birds with rhinestone eyes, hand-painted details, and applied flowers. One bird wears a top hat, and the other wears a bonnet. They were made in Japan for the Lefton Company.
According to the style/text of the stickers, "Made in Japan" indicates they were acquired by Lefton between 1921 and 1941 before Japan was occupied by allied troops after WWII. George Zoltan Lefton established the Lefton Company in 1941 in Chicago. So it would be easy to believe these could have been among the first pieces sold by the Lefton Company!
They have the original stickers and stoppers. They have a couple of chips seen in pics on one wing each. These are beautiful and such adorable shakers even with their 2 little issues! I love them and almost kept them for myself. the chips don't detract from their displaying or using abilities, and the price reflects issues as they sell for much more.
